Wonderful photos of yesteryears. It reminds of my grandparents, eagerly listening to "Blue Hills "by Gwen Meredith, when on holidays with parents in Ballina long ago .
Best wishes
My Mum was a staunch fan of The Lawsons and then Blue Hills for many years Della.
A good post to get us back to the good old days.
Thanks Lindsay, Peter... I knew as soon as I saw the pics what I was going to do - I still smile when I load the page!
Great! My grandad had a corner shop just like that in Lancashire.
After the world cup you've now got Robbie to congratulate in Le Tour de France.
It was fun to immerse myself in those photos and the stories behind them, especially the corner shop. When I arrived in Australia (from California) in 1974, I was amazed at the number of local milk bars in all the neighborhoods. In California supermarkets had long held sway, but in Melbourne you could zip down the street to pick up the essentials, and have a chat to the member of the family that owned the shop. You'd know them, they'd know you. Those days are gone...
I didn't begin listening to Blue Hills until after I got married but I listened for about 8 years until it ended.
I remember listening to the serials for kids such as 'Biggles'. I couldn't wait to get home from school to find out what happened next. Wonderful way to encourage kids to use their imagination - now they watch TV and don't have to imagine anything.
