hands up who didn’t have a Peter Brock Special?

The year was 1984, I was living in Adelaide with my then new husband, having left my New Zealand home of 16 years to re-invent myself yet again as the wife of a high-flying corporate executive. These were fun times and I got to do things and go places I would never have imagined. The industry was high-rolling entertainment and there was plenty of that around. It ended in tears of course, as these things do - but there are plenty of good times to remember.

Brock Special
Peter Brock established the HDT Special Vehicles unit to modify a base model Holden. This was the start of the very successful partnership with GMH. Thousands of "Brock Special" Holden's featuring improved performance, engineering, safety and handling standards, coupled with great comfort and style, were produced. These "Brock Specials" were marketed and sold through Holden Dealerships throughout Australia and New Zealand.

For a while we were the proud owners of a 1984 Brock Special. How it came to be mine was that shortly after we (he) bought it from a very persuasive salesman, he was promoted in his job and was given a ‘company car’... This left us to decide which of our then private cars we would keep. It was decided to sell the Brock Special, but for a while there I got to tool around in it. I like my cars, I’ve had a few of them over the years, I’ll try and dig up some photos.

Peter Brock [1945-2006]

Brock, 61, died on Friday September 8th while competing in the three-day Targa West rally near Perth when he appeared to lose control of his high-powered Daytona Coupe in slippery conditions on a sharp bend
and smashed side-on into a tree.

No other driver in the history of Australian motor racing can challenge the record of Peter Brock, who has dominated the sport for the last three decades.

Vale Peter!

A nice tribute to Brocky Della, I'm envious of that Brock Special, even if you only had it for a while.

I had it for about a year, and it was good for a bit of skiting (specially with the guys) but my real taste in cars is/was a bit different, I'll see if I can dig up some pics.

I had a boyfriend years ago with a Brock Special. I won't tell you what we got up to in that vehicle!!!

A sad, sad week we've had, isn't it? Steve-O and now Brocky, unbelievable.

Great post, though.

Take care, Della

I've been a huge fan of Peter Brock for years. I met him years ago after a race meet at Lakeside, north of Brisbane. He was quite a hunk and a very nice guy to talk with. I went cold all over when I heard the news of his untimely death.

What a week last week was...it's all so difficult to digest!

I still get a little choked up when I think about Peter Brock's death. It doesn't seem real. What a fabulous tribute.
