Noel wants to go shopping later for a new washing machine, and there is a show on tonight at Twin Towns (a local cabaret spot) with
Renee Geyer and Vika and Linda Bull that I’d really like to go and see.We don’t go out much, but Vika and Linda
do a really great live act, and I think I still have Renee’s first album somewhere. She got big in the States for a while there - lovely ‘torch’ singer style.
Thanks to everybody who commented on my last post with the new blogroll links, I do have other blogs that I visit too, but the ones I actually add to the blogroll are those that fit into the ‘turningsixty’ theme - elderbloggers from here in Australia and around the world, and a wonderful world it is too -
very inspirational to visit and see what everybody else is up to with their days, for instance Merle blogged about putting up a little sail cloth gazebo thingy in her yard, now, I’ve been looking, looking, for something for my ‘new’ garden space, I had hoped to get some sort of timber structure, but everything I like is too dear - so, I’ve found this - which I think will work just fine - it’s to go under the big Silky Oak so I can sit in the breeze on the hot days.
Gotta share this really funny story ... it was Fiona O’Loughlin (a very successful Aussie stand-up comedian and mother-of-five who uses her family a lot to get laughs), on Wednesday night’s Spicks and Specks program on the ABC.
I am telling the story from memory so some of the words are mine:
Fiona talks about the time when she had just moved to Alice Springs to live there with her husband. She was feeling a bit left out whe she saw the husband talking at the front gate with a bunch of his football-playing mates, so to give him a bit of a stir, she went to the front door and screeched at him with hands-on-hips,‘Why aren’t you working? you are supposed to be cleaning up the yard, and when you are finished you can do the back-yard too!’ At which the blokes took off up the street.
Husband comes inside and asks ‘Why did you do that?” Fiona says she then burst into tears (a weapon she says works well), and told him it must be because she is lonely without friends and other women to talk to...
A little while later, Fiona goes to answer a knock at the door, and it is her husband, dressed up as a woman, come to visit and have a chat ... so they go into the house and sit at the kitchen table having a cup of tea and a gossip.
In the meantime, the mates who have run off up the street get to feeling bad and decide they should go back and see if husband needs help with his chores...
Needless to say, when husband answers the door (still dressed as a woman) - they flee back up the street, and Fiona’s reputation takes a speedy nose-dive!
If you get a chance to see Fiona in action, she is a very funny lady...
That’ll do it for me, the sun’s come up - and if I go looking for more things to blog about I wont get anything done in the house or the yard!
I’ll be back later to do some reading, when it gets too hot outside...

You and I were both early birds this morning, Della...I got up at 3am and couldn't go back to sleep so I fiddled around on the computer until the paper was delivered. Read that and went out to do some food shopping...and was one of the earliest shoppers, of course!
I'm going to sit down later and watch the Moonee Valley races...Cox Plate day today. I love watching the lead up meets to the Melbourne Cup. Just love watching those beautiful horses.
Renee Geyer should be great and teamed with the Bull sisters, it promises to be a very good show!
I bet that husband never lives that story down! ;)
Have a great weekend!
That is one of the funniest things I've ever read!
That is one of the funniest things I've ever read!
Hi Della, I was up at 4 am and did some work on the computer, too.
I saw "Spicks and Specks" on Wednesday night. I love Fiona McLoughlin, she is one funny lady and she really knows how to tell a story. I was in fits at that one!
I also like "The Glasshouse" but one has to have a fairly open mind for that show. Nothing, but nothing, is sacred to those three.
Have a good day.
I absolutely love Vika and Linda, have not had the pleasure of seeing them live however. I like you choice for under the Silky Oak, should look great. Terrific joke I am still laughing.
Cheers Margaret
Hi Lee, love those early morning shops, it's about the only time down here the shops are relatively quiet, people everywhere these days.
Barbee, I'm with you, really funny story...
Thanks Robyn, might as well get up once we are awake, I've stopped doing 6am work starts, but I still wake up... we do glasshouse too, they certainly are irreverent, but usually very funny too..
Margaret, I first knew Vika and Linda with the Black Sorrows, they have such unique voices and can sing just about anything, as they proved on Sat night at the concert - which, btw, was fantastic, everything I'd hoped it would be, that Renee Geyer still rocks for sure!
Thanks all, for visiting...
Hi Della, I really liked the Black Sorrows at the time Vika and Linda were members. Their harmonies made the songs hits for me. Glad you had an enjoyable time at their concert. Thanks for your visit to my Cobb & Co.
Will visit again soon Margaret
Hi Della
i like your story.and also your choice of gazebo to go under the silky oak.
That was indeed a very funny story about the husband dressed up in women's clothing. I think that was really thoughtfull of him.
I want to thank you for stopping in to visit over at my little spot of the world and for leaving a nice comment. I do love my little corner of the world and have learned to take the joy that life offers and leave the rest behind...or try to anyway.
I like the canopy that you have chosen...I've always wanted one, but we have a great big sycamore tree with a very huge canopy of its own and we love it. It's like having a very large covered area that filters away the sun and rain.
I guess you can tell that I am over 60 because I ramble on.
Hi Della,
Just stopping in to say thanks for the visit. I'll be back to visit you again when I have a bit more time to explore your site!
:-)
Oh, this is the first time I've visited with you. I came here from a comment link you left in Merle's blog.
I'm right up there with you in age...well, close. Nearing 60!! Good gravy Marie---I never thought I'd say that in front of the world! But here I am...golly-------nearly 60!! That doesn't sound so bad afterall, but it was a choking moment there for a second in time.
I'll be sure to come back. Have a terrific day/evening.
Glad you enjoyed the concert, Della...sounds like a good night out.
That story about the guy dressing in his wife's clothes reminds me of that one where the wife thinks her husband is still underneath their car working on it and she goes out to the garage and squeezes him on the balls...the poor mechanic under the car fractured his skull! ;)
Hi Della...thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment:-) I always love "meeting" new people!! I've read a few of your posts and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed them so will be back!! Drop by my blog again tomorrow for my Halloween Bash! hehe Take care!
Hi Della ~ I hope you enjoyed the Halloween lunch. I like the look of the gazebo you showed us and hope you can get it for your new yard. It is nice under mine, but will get too hot
later on. Then I live inside with my evaporative cooling, which is great.
I hope your garden work is nearly finished and you will enjoy it.
Take care, Love, Merle.
That is a great story! I can just see the whole thing unfolding in my mind....that couple is probably STILL the talk of the town!
I was strolling through your blog and found this. Very good, has me laughing out loud in front of my computer.
