So then, who's watching the Australian Open (Tennis) ?

Found myself watching a bit yesterday, I really only enjoy tennis if I am interested in who wins, my mum was a championship tennis player when she was young; she tried to get us all interested, but I never mastered it. Athletics was my thing, and later netball and basketball. I was a good runner, held the Queensland Open Ladies 400 yards when I was about 14 - they wanted me to go on with it and train for the big events; but I was a ratbag by then and wasn't interested... sad the chances we miss.

AmelieThe reason I was watching yesterday was because I was doing some work online, and although I've got the TV out here setup so that I can watch PayTV on it, it's a wireless box thingy and it picks up interference from the wireless router if I have the modem turned on at the same time. So if I need to be online, then I have to watch free-to-air TV, hence the tennis...

It was good to see Amelie Mauresmo win, it must be a bit daunting to be first up on a big event like this. Amelie won the Open last year (her first grand slam), and then went on to win Wimbledon, so extra pressure not to go out on the opening game, I would imagine.

never underestimate the ingenuity of a woman on her own who needs to get something done!
lawnmower
The wheelbarrow tyre is not fixed, so I had to find another way to move the grass squares; not that heavy, but after I'd carried the first four, I realised I wasn't going to be able to move them all that way. Went looking in the shed for something to maybe drag them on, and spotted the lawnmower.

It did make an excellent wheelbarrow, and the job was done in no time at all! I did, of course, get in trouble from the MOTH (man of the house) - but as he was sitting watching morning TV while this was going on (he is a fan for Call For Help), I didn't get too upset. Something about 'getting the mower covered in dirt'?

The grass is down, I had a lot of fun, bit like a jigsaw to get it where I wanted it, am only a little bit stiff tonight. Looks good, but I have to keep it wet for the next few days, bit tricky without using the hose (water restrictions are level 4, NO hoses)... apparently some local councils make an exception if you are trying to establish lawn - must ring and ask them...

Back to work tomorrow, probably just as well, I've already got my next garden project lined up, and it's really too hot...

That is back breaking work! My X and I did about 1/4 acre like that.. and yep you have to keep it very wet so the roots grow into the ground below.. I hope it all takes well for you!

The MOTH should be grateful! Good work and a woman's thinking.

I built a (small) wall last year from stones and that was like a jigsaw too.

We are women, we can do it!

DellaB,
You need to go back to work for a rest. ;-)

ROFL....you're as mad as I am, Della...and that's really saying something! ;)

Yep...I'm watching the tennis. I was up until after 1am this morning watching Lleyton Hewitt! During the day, I have the tv playing softly in the background...I don't sit in front religiously watching it during the day but it's there to refer to every so often or when I know something great is about to occur!

Thanks for that site, Della.

We have something in common, but you accomplished far more than me in athletics, I could run fast but I never ever bothered to train, but managed to represent the School in athletics, in the 200 metres -that was about far as I could run flat out without running out of breath, in the Relay and 100 metres. I was never so embarrassed in the inter school competition, for the 200 metres, rolling up with bare feet and unprepared compared to the other accomplished trained athletes. I finished way behind. –I think they were running about 24 seconds for the 200 metres way back then.

I think you would have well and truly beaten me in a 440. It would have taken me nearly a minute as I ran out of breath. The only training I entertained was to smoke a few cigarettes beforehand, something I gave up fortunately in my twenties. In response to my father dieing of lung cancer.

I stayed up late last night to watch Hewitt advance to the second round.

No doubt you are now invigorated after your recent stay amongst the rainforest, nice pictures in the previous posts.

Best wishes

It seems quite strange for me that you had to mow the grass, it's if you had done it in the past or will do it in the future ! Nothing is growing here for the moment it's winter ! Grey and rainy, just good for getting depressed.
I think I should start to watch Tennis too, because Kim Kleysters is Belgian ! She is a very nice girl, a pitty that she will stop after Australia. The other top player Justine Henin, I don't like, she moved to Monaco, so she doesn't has to pay taxes in her country and now she also gets divorced from her first love, probably he is not good enough any more.

I love the Australian Open and I don't have to go to work tomorrow, so I can stay up tonight and watch that gorgeous young Bagdadis (not sure how you spell it) guy. He has the most lovely smile and I love watching him play. Started to watch Lleyton but couldn't stay awake.

Well done with lugging the turf to where you want. We women are so innovative!
