Don't ask! - aren't they cuties?
Whenever I am digging around in the boxes I think, 'oh boy, wouldn't the kids love to see this, or that', but I also think that nobody will bother to go through all this lot (when I'm gone) - and I wonder if it's really worth keeping? But if I lay it out for them, like photo albums, perhaps there will come a day when they enjoy having a look through - probably even one day with me - that would be fun.
There are cards, of course, birthdays and Christmases, and funny drawings they did as kids, locks of hair, chookies first tooth, old concert programs - that sort of thing, and at the same time I'll do the job I've always meant to do, and throw out anything that doesn't need to be kept, I am definitely a hoarder, I also have heaps of stuff that nobody could ever possibly be interested in.
I've just had a bit of a let-down. When I decided to look for work I could do from home, and while I've been doing the Professional Proofreading course, I subscribed to a newsletter from a group called Freelance Work Exchange, who every day sent an email showing ideal jobs that could be applied for and done online, the jobs all sound just great, although of course I am not naive enough to believe all the rah rah - I did think that there was some possibility of finding something. Of course, I had to sign up and pay, of course, to get access to the jobs - and about a week ago I took the plunge and did just that, not a lot, but more than I have to just throw away.
Well, I have found, I believe, that they are a total sham!. I went into the forums, hoping to talk to the people already there, to get some hints and see how others went about applying for and getting jobs. There was nothing there except people complaining, many were asking 'where are the jobs?' - many have applied over and over again and gotten totally NO result - others were calling for the successful ones to come forward and tell us, but NOBODY did - not one single person had posted in the forum about having had success. I did notice that the forum was 'new' - posts only since last October, and the administrators kept telling us, be patient, it can take a few months before you get the first job, and I could understand that, but it didn't look good!
I forgot to go back and cancel at the end of my first 'cheap' week, and today I find I've been billed at the full rate for one month. So I went back for another look, a last look before cancelling my 'membership' - it's a monthly billing thing and I don't want to get caught for another month's payment - and the forums are shut-down; off-line for maintenance.
What a hoax! What a bunch of scammers! I am so angry! It's not even the money really, I was so optimistic - they promised so much - and I know there must be genuine sites where I could find work, but now I'll be reluctant to try another. Rotten shits! I wonder if there is somewhere I can complain?
Tony Joe White; On a happier note, we found some new music a few months ago.
Peter from Holtieshouse was playing a song called 'Poke Salad Annie' on his blog, and I followed it up and found Big Geez, at The Geezer Music Club and listened to some more. Noel especially likes his style and has since bought several albums and DVDs, and yesterday we discovered that he is to play at the Byron Bay Blues Festival.
Son Craig has been asking for a while if I wanted to go, they go every year, and I did once before join them for a while, but until we found this, we weren't - but now we are, we have tickets already, just for the one day, and we wont camp, we'll drive back that same night, it's only an hour away.
Very exciting, can't wait to see the man live. We don't really do concerts, although we did see the Eagles a few years ago, and the Bull sisters last year. It's one of the things I miss most - I used to love doing the music festivals, and the live concerts, these day it's all DVDs for us.

In case you WERE wondering - about the picture - Robbie is showing off his new haircut, and little Lauren is at the age where she just copies everything he does.
Tony Joe White is great. He's been around since the late sixties, early seventies...and he gets better with age. There was a doco on him on the ABC last year, so keep your eye out, Della, it may be repeated...usually late at night...good to tape.
That stinks about that sham site. But you won't get bitten again! Does make you angry though...there are some scum around.
There are always parasites out there, living off honest people. this really makes me cross. They also take a living away from honest people who make genuine offers, as it causes us to be very wary and doubtful.
Enjoy your music festival.
My ISP is connected once more and working well, so it would seem am I.
Cheers Margaret
Oh Della, I'm really sorry you got sucked into a scam. They are so good about how they do things it's hard not to believe, especially when it is something you want or need.
I think your scrap books would be very much appreciated! do it! (if you have time in between everything else you do! sheesh)
I'm curious.. your proofreading class.. is that just for "spelling" or for correction of more then just that? (i'm horrid at it, especially if it's something I wrote!)
Well, first off I think that the scrapbook idea is a grand idea.
I hope you share some of the progress with us all.
Happy Monday...I'm here just visiting and trying to catch up on all the Bloggers Over 50 today.
Hope you can enjoy your day.
I meant to say earlier, Della...I think the 'scrapbook' idea is a brilliant one. I keep meaning to do the same with all the old family pics and memorabilia that I have here...one day I must get stuck into it all and something concrete about it!
What a cute photos ... gorgeous kids.
I've looked into that site, also ... there are alot of shams around, do be careful.
Have fun with the scrapbooking.
Take care, Meow
I suppose there is nothing on that shonky site to identify them, otherwise they would be reported to the ACCC. I'm so suspicious about things.
I remember years ago, I had a visit from a copper enquiring into something (none of my doing, he thought I might have seen something) and I rang to validify his ID. He didn't mind at all, but the person on the end of the phone was very snooty about it all.
Good idea about the scrapbooks. I have a lot of old stuff from the kids, too, but I don't have the patience to "scrapbook" it. It's all in named envelopes packed into boxes.
I've done that Proofreading Course. It's a good one, isn't it? It comes in very handy at work, both at home and in the city.
Have a good week.
Found you via the 50 bloglist - Enjoying your blog. I am so afraid of getting scammed like you that I won't check any of them out, yet I know someone has to be legitimate. Thank you for warning the rest of us. Adorable photo of Robbie and Lauren.
Hi Lee, we taped a show of his, probably the one you mention, yes, it's the one that got us hooked, he is good - now I just have to hope my roster works out, wont know till closer.
thanks Margaret - HEY - it's great to see you back...
Hi Steve, it would be good if you could find them again - I have what little was left of my mother's collection, others in the family might have more.
DesLily, the course I did covered the whole she-bang, proofing, editing, structure - I really enjoyed it, now to put it to work.
Hi Anni, good to see you, I am going to try loading that javascript 'list' today, and yes, go visit the other over 50's.
Meow - lovely to see you, yes I am very nervous now, I cannot afford wasted money, but I do want to find work.
Robyn, at the moment I am even more impatient every time I want to post something, dig around in the boxes, and I have done labelled envelopes, but they don't always tell the truth! I use the stuff I've learned too, it really makes a difference when you know the right way, even when breaking the 'rules'.
Hi Marcia, thanks for visiting, nice to meet you, I haven't done the rounds yet of the over50's - hopefully that will be today, I plan to do some reading...after I get a post up, of course...
Lee - what I'm planning is - bring all the boxes into my 'space', start spreading it around till it gets really messy, that'll motivate me ::smiles::
Thanks for the mention of the Geezer Music Club, Della. If any of your readers want to read the specific Tony Joe White article, here's the link: Poke Salad
Enjoy your blog and read it regularly...keep it up!
Steve (Big Geez)
