bloglines? ...and more family pics

It's time to do some work and find out why my blog is not 'picked up' by blog readers such as bloglines.

I suspect it is because I have made some changes in the template that need to be adjusted. So that's where I will be for a while - working on the template, so no more posting until I get it fixed. Sorry.

In the meantime, if you are reading this, any help you can give me will be appreciated.

For instance, did you come here via a reader program, e.g. Bloglines notified you I had posted?

Also, if you subscribe to or use Bloglines, or one of the other readers or types of readers, and you have anything you can tell me about them, please leave me a note in comments.

thanks
Della

In the meantime, here is a pic to delight the heart.
The new generation of some of the young women in our family.

Russell, on the left, is my sister Roberta's son, next to him is his daughter Lauren, his wife Tran, and then Amanda, my son's wife.

Their baby girl Angelina is with Russell's son Mason in the small picture.

Aren't they all so beautiful!

Great pics and a lovely family, Della...they all look so happy. :)

Don't be long away...as you are missed. Sorry I'm of no help to you...can't even help myself! ;)

I see you quote Anais Nin. I'm a huge fan of her writings and have many of her books plus a biography.

Great pics, Della ... you are very lucky.
As for bloglines ... no idea, can't help you. I know my blog is often not picked up on it, though. I use blogrolling ... it seems to work most of the time. Usually, though, I resort to just going through my favorites / bookmarks, and visiting everyone !!
Have a great week.
Take care, Meow

Hi Della, great minds etc. etc. I was going to ask you to install some "feeds" as that is why my bloglines can't pick your site up and low and behold your post covers just that topic.
Great pics btw.

about Bloglines

Right then, I think I'll document this journey - see how we go.

First step - find bloglines and register.. done

Next - what am I supposed to do next? Not much help in the support links - cannot find instructions on how to put a feed on my own page.

Have found how to add 'feeds' to the myfeeds link, and linked to the turningisxty site, but only found several of my earlier posts.. which makes me think I have removed something back then that stops current feeds.

This is not easy to follow, there must be more instructions somewhere.

about Bloglines

Well, I still feel like I am stumbling around in the dark, but, I seem to have made some progress.

I use FTP and publish the blog from the turningsixty.com.au domain, not at blogspot, so I had to find the atom.xml file, which I did... and it hadn't been updated since Nov 2006, which makes sense about the older posts.

Then I found the settings in blogger were not set correctly to 'publish to Atom' etc. So I fixed those.. all of this with the help of the blogger help group, of course.

Now the atom.xml file shows today's date, but still no new posts in bloglines. I guess the next step is to do a new post and see if that is all I have to do...

Oh, and in the meantime I am sort of learning how to use bloglines to subscribe to other blogs, which is a good thing...

HI Della... I'm with meow..I have a list of links in "favorites" on my browser and just click them all each day.. in aol I had "alerts" but tired of my email being full of only journals so I just check them all each day and no more alerts or feeds!! (most men are lazy that way and need feeds and links lol)

Hi Lee, thanks, it's actually been a much quicker exercise than I thought, and I've learned a bit along the way.. yes, to Anais Nin - but I haven't seen the biography.

Meow - that's been my method too, and probably (hopefully) will keep 'reading' my blogroll on a regular basis - I often pick up new places to visit from the links in comments.

Peter, yep, looks like I was 'picking up' your signals ::smiles::

Hi DesLily, I must admit to being impressed with the way bloglines works, now having seen it - but obviously it does 'miss' some. About 'lazy' men - don't get me started on THAT!

Hi Steve - it's so GOOD to see you back...

Lovely photos, Della! As to your woes with Bloglines, I'm just now learning what it actually is, ha! I did a recent post asking what it was because I get so many view referrers from it. I'm so techie challenged, tho...dunno if I'll ever get onto it myself. I hear you can't comment on the blogs you read there and, as you're finding out, I LOVE TO COMMENT!! Hahaha! I found you because you found me first...now I have you in my "Regular Reads" and just click on you to visit.

I've had you on bloglines for ages.

Sometimes a new post won't show up but that happens with any blogs; not just yours.

I'll check and make sure you're coming in on "atom", not "rss". The new blogger doesn't do rss for some reason known only them.

Della, I tried to get your blog, again, into Google reader just now, but it still doesn't work. I have subscribed to your blog via Blogarhythm, but keep forgetting to 1) look in my junkmail folder where all the notification emails for Blogarhythm go and 2)setting up Blogarhythm so that it doesn't go into junkmail in the first place!

Love the photos of the family!

Hi Val, thanks again for your input, I have added a 'link to google' button on the sidebar - that might work?

Ann, from what I am reading - RSS seems to have had it's day - it's all ATOM now - whatever that means!

DesLily, these feeds don't seem to use emails, but I guess the option is there somewhere if you prefer it. I am used to reading down through my blogroll, and I don't know that that will change - I'll reserve judgement.. thanks for your input..
