Do You Think I'm Sixty?
"Older women have never been sexier or more celebrated for their beauty. But should ordinary ageing mortals have to compete with the greying goddesses of stage and screen?"
You can read the article online in the archives, but you do have to register and subscribe. Shelley raises some good points about perceptions of sexiness in older women, a topic I see discussed more and more these days, and, of course, one very close to my heart.
The article first takes us to a picture spread of Arielle Dombasle, a celebrated French singer and artist -
Shelley says 'The other day I got a man to type the words "Dombasle" and "Paris Match" into Google...'
I have to suspect a composite picture, that can't possibly be a sixty-year old body?
Here are some more of the pictures that go with the article, and a few others I dug up. Funny thing, I looked and looked for some 'australian' contenders, but couldn't find any... what does that say about us?

Now, I am going to take a break from blogging.
I don't have any plan about how long this will be, or when I will be back, I have some other things I need to focus on for a while.
I do hope to continue with reading and visiting when I can - I really enjoy doing that, so it's not goodbye, just ciao for now, and I'll see you all at your place!

Well, would you believe it... Google finally made me switch to new blogger today. Everything seems to be fine, no dramas... but of course, nobody has tried to leave a comment yet - here goes...
Come back soon, Della.
I prefer the "untouched by surgeon's scalpel" women myself...Judi Dench for one.
Dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century at last Della!!!!
Come back when you are able.
It's good to see there are a couple that haven't used botox or the knife...those like Dench, Mirren, Rampling. That's pic of the French singer has definitely been computer-enhanced.
Don't be away too long, Della...you will be missed. Take care. :)
I was interested to see the photos of women who have aged well, and your collection began and ended with two of my all time favorites: Tina Turner, who was born in 1939, I think, and Goldie Hawn, who was born in 1945 - a vintage year!!!
Enjoy your break, Della.
I will miss your blogging.. I hope you come back. If not..write really long comments ! lol
take care..
oh..yeah google won't let me in my blog either.. for now I am at these addresses...

Hi Della, glad you enjoyed the blues festival. I would love to see the black sorrows live. Enjoy your break and hope all goes to plan with your focus project. Look forward to your return to blogging.
Cheers Margaret
When I compare pictures of women today with pictures of my grandmas the same age, there is indeed a big difference ! Have a nice blog holiday !
Hi Della ~~ Enjoyed reading and seeing the pics of the girls. Some age better than others. I feel that
health is more important than looks
though we all do our best.
Enjoy the break Della, and come back again before too long, Love, Merle.
Thanks everybody, looks like the comments are working just fine. I hope to get around and do some 'visiting' in the next few days.
Noel is away until Friday, they have a 'gambling help service' forum in Brisbane for which he is one of the prime movers, so I have a nice quiet house for the week.
Had my little grand-daughter to stay with me yesterday for the first time, alone. It went well, challenging, but fun. She is a good little thing, but active, with a fairly short attention span. I will be learning new skills, I think...
Hi, Della,
Will miss you but will be waiting for your next post. Have a great break!!!
Will miss visiting you and hope your projects go well so that you come back soon. As for the new Blogger, I switched some months ago and find the new version so easy to use. Have fun, Della.
Take however long you need to take care of the other things in your life.....we all need a hiatus from time to time. I imagine one of the things you will be doing is spending time with your little grand daughter.....watching the grandkids is always fun for me!
Hope you enjoy your time off, Della. You will be missed.
Take care, Meow
Della....
I totally understand taking a break from blogging.
Take care.
[Oh and I think the majority of the 60+ in age 'babes' have had some chassis work done!! Judy Dench maybe not....but the others?
Hi Della. im Judi Dench fan and she is ageing gracefully.
dont stay away to long, take care
Hi Della.
Enjoy your break, but hurry back xx
Happy mother's day to you, Della. As long as you're having fun, I can wait! (chuckle)

*sigh* missing you and your journal.
I've always had a strange affinity with the elderly ... cannot explain it but can illustrate the point. When I was little I was welcome to stay at my grandparents' for weekends. My little brother (poor mite!) was not. Because he was so easily bored whereas I could fit in with the pace of their lives ... OK maybe that does not prove my point at all oh I don't know. I did notice that when I passed the age of, say 25, I suddenly got treated as a human being by the rest of the human race. Really I don't blame them for ignoring me before .... I hate young people too. Not individually but as a group. Even the monumentally slow news media are picking up on this trend: that school children here (in London) are so agressively violent, demanding, assertive, loud, obnoxious and downright horrible that none of their elders would DARE tell them off for misbehaving. Which they do ALL THE TIME like you would not believe. People from other countries cannot believe the generation of blighters we have somehow brought up here ...
OK I will stop rambling now.
I found you via Merle's Aussie links. I'm on a kind of cybertour of Australia at the mo.
If you want to drop by mine you're most welcome; I'm at http://gledwood2.blogspot.com - that's my online journal. Everything else I do's linked up through that.
I'll wish you all the best now & be on my way.
Take care!
Gledwood "vol 2" ...
Hi, Della,
Droped by to see how you're doing. Miss you.

Visiting here just on the off chance that Google Reader forgot to notify me of a post, and that I would find one of your lovely posts waiting for me to read...
Thanks for posting about this. I must say I prefer the faces that have not had any 'work' done on them!
I'm all for natural aging, too. What on earth is the point of trying to look eternally young, always trying to be something other than what we really are -- just another stage in the aging process that started when we were born.
Nice selection of photos of older women.
Enjoyed visiting your neat blog, and hope you enjoy your time off from blogging. Everyone needs a break and vacation from time to time to get yourself recharged.
Best regards,
